MiltonSearch.com over the past few weeks has put together a number of profiles for the races in this years municipal election. This weeek he profiles Ward 6 local council race (of which yours truly is running) This website is a great source of what is happening in Milton, how to find out infomation on our town and great sports talk (that is if you’re a Leaf fan)
Check out the piece and make sure you vote (it is purely unscientific but you can vote anyways)

Thanks for the plug, Mike! Our ward-by-ward profiles have been a big hit and we’ve already surpassed our previous record number of pageviews in a month and it’s only October 20th!
The purpose was really to get the word out about the election and to try to educate people on the candidates running in their own wards. Our aim was to try to make things a little easier for people because in previous years, it was harder to find this type of information. As we all know, this is a very important election for Milton — the current issues facing our growing town, combined with the poor voter turnout from 2006 caused us to want to really encourage people to be informed and ensure they get out and vote and participate in the democratic process.
As for the polls, they’re definitely unscientific, as obviously votes are accepted from all wards, but we wanted to give people a chance to offer support to any and all candidates they feel are doing a good job and who they feel deserve their vote.
I’d like to encourage visitors to Mike’s site to also check out the newly redesigned and relaunched MiltonSearch.com — we’ve changed our format a bit and are now a kind of hybrid between a blog / newspaper / magazine with tons of relevant, current content for Milton residents to sink their teeth into. We’d also like visitors to comment on our articles and / or let us know what you think of the site if you have time.
Yes, we do have an in-depth sports section that, come winter, will be pretty Leaf / Raptor intensive (much to the detriment of Mr. Cluett the Canuck fan!), however we do live in the GTA, remember??
Okay, shameless plug over!
Mike, I just want to wish you the best of luck on election night, October 25th and thank you for your commitment to the community of Milton and to the new Ward 6 over the last several years and hopefully on into the future. The offices of MiltonSearch.com are located in the heart of Ward 6 and you have our support.
You have proven that you care and are committed to working hard on our behalf as well as keeping residents informed of through this site. What you have done over the last 4+ years is set the new minimum standard for what we should expect of our Municipal politicians.
Keep up the great work!
No problem Dave. Your site is a great source of information to make life in Milton a bit better 🙂
Ive received a number of emails now saying some supporters of my opponent must have flooded the poll because earlier this morning his count was 3 and now its 20.
As youve said before, take the poll with a grain of salt obviously because not everyone who votes on the poll are from ward 6.
I plan to continue knocking on doors, speaking directly with as many people as possible before the 25th about how we can work together on council to get things done.
I’ll leave the online games to my opponent and his supporters.
Again, thanks for the kind words, Mike.
Yes, I can confirm that 2 users were voting over and over again in the poll for your competitor when he was sitting at just 2 votes. Basically, the polls are set up so that it prevents you from voting a 2nd time (or third, fourth or sixteenth!) using cookies. There are ways around that, however, so we eventually had to set all of our polls to block individual IP’s from voting again to prevent the abuse.
The polls are designed to be informal for sure, but this kind of thing is a little childish – we’ve had to do this in a couple of other wards as well….
Online games aside…and with all due respect to the poll, the only one that will matter will be on the 25th.
Ive been on enough campaigns both personally and for others in the last many years to know games like this exist.
I hope ward 6 voters will see through them and vote for someone who they beleive will better represent them at town council.
Im going to continue to knock on doors, meet as many people as possible over the next 5 days and if selected, work with them to make Milton a better place to live.
Mike, I actually hope that this “game” backfires, and encourages even more of your supporters to make the effort to vote on the 25th so that your campaign concludes successfully. Gamesmanship of this nature generally ends up alienating the intended beneficiary.
This is really beginning to bug me and I wonder if there’s something someone can do.
A few weeks back a friend of Maqsood came to my house and convinced my wife to put a sign on the lawn.
I didn’t want one at all because I haven’t made a decision yet on who I was voting for.
I took the sign down one day because I was tired of seeing it, and everytime I do someone comes by and puts another one back up.
Can this stop? I’m voting for Mike because first off he’s the better candidate and second this tactic is wrong. Its very pushy and rude.
Call – or better, email – the candidate and ask him to remove it. That way if they put it up again it’s on them and you have a record that you asked for it to be removed.
