As the Premier announced yesterday, Ontario is heading into a province wide emergency brake in efforts to stem the tide of rising COVID-19 infections.

Over the past month Halton Region has seen an increase in active cases from roughly 200 at the beginning of March to almost 450 as of yesterday. Hospitalizations have increased as well as those in ICU care which is huge cause for concern to both the provinces medical officer of health and here in Halton.

This will undoubtedly put even more pressure on small businesses and those employed by them for the next 28 days. The modified shutdown will take effect 12:01am Saturday and the province is urging residents to abide by the guidelines, most importantly being stay within your household and limit any unnecessary travel.

I had a chance to speak with Halton News on YourTV Halton yesterday for my comments and message to Milton residents.

As always I ask that you please follow the guidelines strictly to ensure your safety. There will be some essential and non essential businesses allowed to be open during this time and it’s imperative we do all we can to help our local businesses survive. Many of us are celebrating Easter this weekend and later this month others will be observing Ramadan. We would much rather be with friends and family during this time we are asking that we do all we can to celebrate virtually and be safe.

It’s a lot to ask. A lot of has been asked of us for the last year and many of us are at the end of our ropes. It’s been tough and will continue to be if we don’t stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We’ve stemmed the tide before and we can do it again.

Please follow Halton Region and the Town of Milton online and on social media for the most up to date information during this period of time and i will also be updating my website as well.

Take care everyone and please be safe. If you are eligible for vaccination and haven’t booked your appointment, please do it as soon as possible and encourage others to do the same. Halton Region is administering them as quickly as possible and when you are eligible sign up right away.

Have a wonderful Easter Weekend and be safe. Take care Milton.
