Halton Region News: OMB Hearings Adjourned
This is actually good news for Derry Green business park. It gives the Region and the developers time to come to an agreement to move forward with the future corporate business park and a new survey called Boyne in Milton. I have said many times that business growth is our biggest challenge for Milton and we need businesses to move here to help relieve the pressure on the residential taxpayer as growth continues.
I would say that we should be cautiously optimistic at this adjournment and if anything changes, I’ll post it on my website.

OMB hearing adjourned on Development Charge Bylaw
Release Date: Feb 28, 2013
Halton Regional Council confirmed its position that growth pay for itself to the degree permitted by Provincial legislation, that existing taxpayers and businesses are not impacted by the costs associated with new residential growth, and that the Region’s AAA credit rating is maintained and is not impacted in any way by the cost of new growth in the Region. Staff was further directed to continue to work with the development industry to explore opportunities for a negotiated resolution to the outstanding appeals to the Development Charges (DC) Bylaw. The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearing scheduled to begin on February 25th was adjourned to allow these discussions to occur.
“I am pleased that Regional Council continues to be united on this important issue,” said Regional Chair Gary Carr. “This is another example of how Regional Council remains committed to protecting the taxpayers of Halton.”

Happy New Year Milton
Thank you to everyone who came out to the annual New Year Bell Ringing at Milton Town Hall last night. Over 100 people braved the chill in the air to join Mayor Krantz, myself along with some other councillors to help ring in the new year.
This tradition goes back to 1967 when Jim Dills started it. Every year there is an honourary bell ringer to start us off. This year was a young girl named Cara Slade who throughout the year had been job shadowing Mayor Krantz to learn about how local government worked and politics in general. Look out Gord…shes gunning for your job!
Joining us this year as usual was the world’s most famous hockey dad Walter Gretzky who helped the kids and other adults cheer and ring in 2013.
It was a great night…to be followed by the Mayor and Councillors New Year’s Levee on January 1st. I’ll post more about that later this week.

Record Donations for Milton Stuff A Bus
Milton Transit’s Holiday Stuff-a-Bus BREAKS record for donations
Milton Transit held its most successful holiday “Stuff-a-Bus” to date on Sunday, November 18, 2012 during the Milton Santa Claus parade.
In total, over 4,350 lbs of food were collected benefiting the Salvation Army food bank in Milton and thousands of dollars worth of toys in support of Toys for Tots.
“On behalf of Milton Transit, I would like to thank our generous Milton community and the many volunteers who helped make this year’s holiday Stuff-a-Bus such a great success,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz.
Milton Transit will hold its next “Stuff-a-Bus” early March 2013, in time for Easter celebrations.

Milton Remembrance Day Ceremonies
This weekend there are two ceremonies to celebrate Remembrance Day.
The first one is on Saturday morning at the Evergreen Cemetery on Ontario St (across from EC Drury) starting at 1045AM at the cenotaph.
The second one is Sunday morning in downtown Milton beginning at 130 pm and will include a parade of Scouts, Guides, Cadets and a whole host of others including our veterans. The ceremony will begin at Milton Town Hall at the cenotaph for 2pm.
Afterwards please join us at the Legion Branch for some food, drinks and great conversation with our veterans. Its a great opportunity to say thank you to those who fought in wars for our freedom and remember those who didnt make it back.
Canada is an amazing country because of these brave men and women and while she should remember and thank them every day, please take some time this weekend to attend either one of these events.
