Lane Reductions on Derry Road November 4th

On November 4th there will be lane reductions on Derry Road from Scott Blvd to Bronte St to complete the watermain construction that was started recently.  Here is a notice sent from Halton Region.  Please keep this in mind when driving in the area.

RE: Lane Reduction – Derry Road/CN Grade Separation, Town of Milton on Monday November 4, 2013
(Halton Contract R-2749-13)

Halton will be completing two watermain connections on Monday November 4, 2013. In order to facilitate the work, Halton will be reducing Derry Road (Regional Road 7) between Scott Boulevard and Bronte Street to one lane in each direction for the duration of the day. The work will begin at approximately 6:00 a.m. and will be completed by approximately 8:00 p.m.

The public will be notified of the traffic restriction by notices posted on the portable variable message boards west of Scott Boulevard and east of Bronte Street. The Milton Hospital and the Milton Fire Station on Savoline Boulevard will be notified separately. Halton Regional Police will also be on site to direct traffic during this time.

We understand that this lane restriction will cause some traffic congestion during this timeframe and encourage drivers to consider an alternate route for this day.

If you have any concerns or questions, please contact Halton’s Project Manager, Jennifer Trimble at 905-825-6000, extension 7690.

Road Closure Louis St Laurent & Ferguson

Please be advised that MADD Canada will be coming to Milton again this year to film an educational video entitled “Killer Blog”.

They will be filming on Thursday October 24, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and on Tuesday October 29, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

During these filming times the intersection of Louis ST Laurent and Ferguson Drive will be closed and residents to the north will be detoured.

The Town will be installing Advanced Road Closure signage and setting up the detour.

The filming was a great success last year thanks to the efforts of Milton Fire Department and Halton Regional Police Services.

The filming company will be hand delivering the attached notices and will be obtaining signatures for overnight filming from residents that are directly affected by this filming.

#TheIssue Airs on TV Cogeco Every Thursday

I just wanted to say how much fun it was being a part of the panel on TV Cogeco’s new show, The Issue.

Its a current affairs program for the Milton area and this past Thursday I was honoured to be part of the show.  I was a panelist along with moderator Mark Carr, Robert Duvall of RDC Networks and the President of the Milton Chamber of Commerce Richard Bolton.  We spent the hour long show talking about growth in Milton and the challenges it faces for both residents and businesses alike.

If you have Cogeco TV, I urge you to tune in every Thursday night at 7pm (its repeated throughout the week as well) and engage in the conversation.

CKSS Students host Community Clean Up

While driving to school or work today did you notice a number of students walking along Louis St Laurent and 4th Line as well as other areas in town?  Those were CKSS students participating (in what I believe is the first annual) Community Clean Up.

Many students at CKSS took time from their schedule today to tackle the garbage problem that we face in this area.  Even before 930 this morning I had received a couple of calls and tweets about how impressed they were with their initiative in cleaning up our neighbourhoods.

I have outlined through my Twitter many times this past year there is a growing problem with garbage and the roadside dumpings that have happened.  Many residents have taken it upon themselves to dump household waste in the green containers along Louis St Laurent and a number of our local parks instead of paying for extra garbage tags.

Town and Regional staff are continuously looking at this problem to see what solution we can come up with.  Seeing garbage bags ripped open by racoons or other animals with waste flying all around isn’t attractive whatsoever and I get a lot of comments from local residents and students about this.

So once again….thank you to the students of Craig Kielburger Secondary School for taking this task on and giving back to the community.  Your hard work has not gone unnoticed.  Great job!
