Lights are beginning to be installed at James Snow Parkway and Trudeau today.
This has been a high collision area recently & Councillors Colin Best, Rob Duvall and I have been working at getting this done as quickly as possible. There have been delays due to the frost still in the ground but they have begun the work today. The lights should be energized by mid-May 2015.
There is also another area of concern for residents at JSP and Clark Blvd and I’ve been told that should be installed and active by September 2015 at the latest.

Halton Municipalities Respond to CN’s Submission to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency

On Friday, April 17, the five Halton municipalities (the Town of Milton, the Town of Oakville, the Town of Halton Hills, the City of Burlington and Halton Region) jointly issued a formal response to the Canadian National Railway Company’s (CN) project description for its proposed Milton Logistics Hub. The project description was submitted by CN to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) and is available for public comment through CEAA’s website until Monday, April 27.
The joint response highlights several concerns, including:
CN has provided incomplete information;
CN has improperly narrowed the scope of relevant environmental effects;
CN has failed to identify all possible federal approvals; and
CN has not demonstrated how this project is exempt from the Canada Transportation Act railway line approval process.
The joint response also asserts that the proposed Milton Logistics Hub project should be subject to a full environmental assessment by CEAA. It outlines a number of reasons for this suggestion, specifically citing CEAA’s mandate to protect the environment and human health, and to consider any adverse impacts that may be caused by a project like the one proposed by CN.
“As municipalities, we have key responsibilities to protect the public interest,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “We expect to see our federal regulators do the same.”
“We have heard from our residents in the Town Milton,” said Mayor Gordon Krantz. “The Town of Milton demands a full environmental review of this project.”
The Town and the Region encourage residents to review CN’s project description and provide comments through CEAA’s website before April 27. After this date, CEAA will review feedback and determine whether this project will require a full environmental assessment.
Continuing with my meetings with senior staff at the Region of Halton and other levels of government. Earlier this month I was able to take part in Halton (Milton MP) Lisa Raitt’s pre-budget round table. In that meeting I brought up a number of concerns for the Town of Milton. Many of them included infrastructure issues and looking at getting some financial support from all levels of government, including the feds.
As a fast growing municipality, we are faced with many issues and restrictions that other “slower growing” regions do not. Minister Raitt seemed very enthusiastic about some of the ideas brought forward that will help in the moving of not only regular traffic, but to help reducing gridlock on the highways, where most of our good and services are transported through.
There were also a number of other Milton area stakeholders in attendance from both the business community and important social services as well. I look forward to hearing back from Minister Raitt on future proposals from the federal level of government.
Today’s meeting was with Public Works to discuss issues that have been brought up to me over the last 4 plus years on council as well as during the campaign.
The number one issue I brought up was Fairness for Milton and the breakdown of Halton Region and the number of councillors per municipality. All have agreed so far that this is something that needs to be addressed in this term and we’re working on ways to bring this to the forefront.
I also talked about improved synchronization of the traffic lights along regional roads like Derry and Britannia, blue box improvements, waste collection-bag limits, park dumping and of course working on regional road projects to ensure they are on time and limited displacement of Milton residents.
After every meeting I hand them a copy of my platform piece so they know where I and the voters of wards 1,6,7 & 8 are coming from. So far they have all been in agreement with the priorities you raised during the last election campaign.

The strategic plan sets the course for Halton Region council to help build a Complete Community. As you will remember during the election campaign, a Complete Community is something that we all need to work towards. We need as much input from the public as possible and its meetings like this that are very important. The Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation is now making plans for its 6th annual “Miracle on Main Street” toy drive charity event presented this year by Techno Metal Post.
The donations raised each year go towards the purchase of toys, food and life essentials for families experiencing poverty via The Salvation Army, Halton Women’s Shelter and children suffering from sickness at SickKids and McMaster Children’s Hospital. To date the foundation has raised close to one million dollars in combined sponsorships and donations over the past five events.
“The objective of Miracle on Main Street is to promote the spirit of giving among all faiths,” says Tiger Jeet Singh Jr., president of Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation. “Sickness and poverty do not discriminate; neither should the spirit of giving.”
Miracle on Main will take place on Monday, December 15th from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on a closed off portion of Main Street in front of Troy’s Diner, 295 Main Street in Milton. There will be amusement rides, petting zoo, live entertainment and extravagant displays set up by the Halton Regional Police Services & C.A. Towing.
The event is FREE for everyone and all that is asked is for a donation of a new unwrapped toy.
Carols will be sung, autographs and pictures will be taken with wrestling’s living legend Tiger Jeet Singh, Canada’s most famous hockey dad Walter Gretzky, former WWE superstar Tiger Ali Singh, members of the Argos, Ti-Cats, Toronto Rock, Maple Leaf and NHL Alumni. Talks are also underway to have a return visit made by the Stanley Cup.
A second event will take place in the main lobby at McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton on Wednesday, December 17th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The lobby of McMaster Children’s Hospital will be transformed into a holiday wonderland.
