Ward One Recount Confirms Original Result

Milton council recently approved a recount request for Milton Ward One results in the 2014 election. By a vote of 6-2 (Clr Malboeuf and I voted against) a recount was approved and to be held today.

Earlier this morning the recount begun and after a few hours the results were released showing no change in the vote count. Clr Elect Robert Duvall – Milton Ward 1 Councillor, who won by 14 votes, is expected to be confirmed by Town officials as the duly elected representative for Ward one. There is a time frame of 16 days where the results can be appealed but that is not expected.

Here is the article of the decision by council to approve the recount. My reasoning is included in the article.

“Councillors Mike Cluett and Rick Malboeuf voted against the recount, citing the $4,000 in legal expenses that the Town would have to incur.

“From a numbers point of view, I feel that it would be highly unlikely the vote count to change that drastically given the number of votes cast. I feel confident that the results would be the same and therefore I look at what impact it would have on taxpayers for the cost of the recount,” said Cluett.

Local and Regional Councillor Colin Best said the recount was necessary because Barkley lost by such a small number of votes, which could easily be the result of faulty optical scanners or ballots with unclear markings.”

Councillor Elect Robert Duvall told me earlier today that hes glad this is over and is looking forward to begin working on council starting December 1st.

Santa Comes to Milton November 16th

You better watch out.

Santa Claus makes his return to Milton this coming weekend Sunday November 16th starting at 130pm.  The parade route is the same as last year so make your plans now and pick your spot along Main Street.  The parade will begin at Main & Scott Blvd and move along historic downtown Milton and end at the Milton GO Station.

The usual mainstays of the parade will be there as well.  Milton Transit and the STUFF A BUS will be there so please bring some non perishable food items for our local food bank.  Members of the Milton Rotary Club will be walking the parade route with big buckets for donations.  As many know, the Milton Santa Claus parade is funded totally from donations and sponsors and every little bit helps.

Kids can also bring their letters to Santa as well!  Lots of fun for the whole family and a great way to kick off the Christmas season.

I look forward to seeing everyone there at this years Milton Santa Claus parade.  For more information please visit their website.

Better be good…for goodness sake! HO HO HO!

Milton resident Mike Cluett was handily elected Local and Regional Councillor for Wards 1, 6, 7 and 8 tonight.

Cluett, who was first elected to town council’s Ward 6 in 2010, said he was thrilled by the vote of confidence in him.

He celebrated the victory at Shoeless Joe’s where his wife of 15 years was also celebrating her birthday. Cluett added tonight’s victory was a triple celebration since the couple also marked their 15th anniversary in September during the heart of the election campaign.

The Ward 6 councillor announced he was seeking the regional councillor position when 2014 was first ushered in. He filed on January 2.

“This says that hard work and communication with residents is important,” Cluett said of the clear victory.

Cluett took 3,391 votes, while former ousted town councillor Tony Lambert came second with 1,799, followed by Mian Abubaqr, 1,681 and Kristen Collver with 1,026. Figures weren’t official at press time.

“Residents want a vision and they want to make sure that someone represents them,” he added.

Cluett said he’s been attending regional council meetings since early in his term to remain up-to-date on what’s happening.

Cluett is also on the board of the United Way of Milton and the Milton Community Resource Centre.

“The hard part begins now to help grow Milton the way residents want it,” said Cluett. “They want to grow with more balance, with job opportunities as opposed to just residential growth.

“People want to live and work in town then there’s more of a connection to Milton and it won’t be that bedroom community people say it is.”

Statement from Mike Cluett Campaign

Friends,

I was very disappointed to learn about the anonymous smear piece being distributed in Wards 1,6,7 & 8. Frankly, the residents of Milton deserve better.

When I applied to fill the vacancy that was created when Tony Lambert was removed from council for violating The Municipal Act,http://www.insidehalton.com/news-story/4275588-milton-council-officially-ousts-lambert/ I did so because I believed I was in the best position to fill the vacancy immediately and deliver the kind of leadership our residents have been lacking for years.

Since 2010, I have been honoured to represent the residents of Ward 6 on Milton Town Council and I believe that my record and commitment to our community speaks for itself. I welcome anyone who has questions to contact me mike@mikecluett.ca or visit my website to learn more about how we can build a Complete Community.

Thank you for your continued support, and don’t forget to get out and vote on Monday October 27!

Mike Cluett
Candidate for Local/Regional Councillor Wards 1,6,7,8
