Here is a letter to the editor from Andrew Goodwin about the $1 MILLION dollar glass wall for the new Milton Town Hall. Ive talked about this before as well, so everyone knows where I stand but it seems other Miltonians are also questioning Milton Town Councils thought process.
If you want things to change, they have to hear from you. Heres the letter from the Champion.
I can’t believe the Town of Milton is getting a window for the expanded Town Hall at a cost of about $1 million.
That’s the most outrageous thing I have ever heard town council approve. I don’t know how Mayor Gord Krantz can wake up every morning knowing this — especially with so many people having lost their jobs.
You could take that taxpayers’ money and build some affordable housing.
Councillors should have a hard time looking in the mirror, as their jobs are safe while other families struggle.
If they need an idea for how to spend the money, how about a crosswalk sign on Bronte Street where the housing projects are. They took out the flashing light and now the kids have to cross the street at their own judgment as cars don’t have to stop anymore.
Yeah, that’s another good move by our town council.
Guess they wanted to save some money for their expensive window for their fancy Town Hall.
ANDREW GOODWIN, MILTON
Municipal councillors jobs aren’t that safe…every 4 years they are up for grabs during a municipal election. 2010 is the next one. Just over a year away.

Oh, didn’t you know? Crosswalks cause Global Warming.
That sad thing is, even if this window/wall had been itemized in the plan, I sincerely doubt that anyone would have noticed or cared.
The apathy in this town when it comes to our municipal government is profoundly disturbing. People bitch and moan about all the lousy decisions that have been made over the past few years regarding sprawl, spending, the death of downtown – and then they just keep re-electing the same people who made those decisions. That is if they bother to vote at all.
I think Gordon Krantz would have to eat a live kitten in the middle of the Wal-Mart for him to get voted out of office.
Now theres a visual I could do without. I hear what you’re saying as roughly 23% of people in Ward 1 came out to vote the last municipal election and even less voted in the Ward 2 by election as well. – Mike
BTW, I think the wall they’re talking about is on the other side, between the old and new sections. I do like the stonework, though – it matches nicely with the original.
I put that picture up from the website showing the updates to the Milton Town Hall Expansion. Sadly, I couldn’t locate the MILLION dollar wall. – Mike
Nice to see my taxdollars being effectively wasted.
Makes me feel SO much better about that property tax hike.
Makes one wonder if a million bucks can slip through the cracks what else has been completely wasted. Even after emailing town council none of them seem to even care about this as they just want it to go away. The people in the town of Milton are what makes this town great and they just lost allot of their hard earned money over some idiot who never will be held accountable. Someone needs to be fired and booted very far out of this town including the mayor. This is completely unacceptable and just proves how useless our government is, they need to be reminded in a big way who they work for!
You would have to wonder if a Million Dollars slips through and no one notices, how many other 500,000’s or 200,000’s have slipped through as well. Not to say the new town hall is not important…it is. Money just has to be spent smarter and more accountibility to go with it. – Mike
