Local Matters Discusses Milton’s Youth Strategy

Back in June 2018, the Town of Milton came to council with a report called #MiltonYouth for our review. In that report it outlined a number of concerns brought up by the youth in town including engagement, mobility, opportunities to be involved among many others.

To many of us on Milton council, this was an eye opening report telling us that as we continue to grow, the youth – the future of Milton – wants a seat at the table. In the past when youth committees spoke to council, they had discussed what most would call “youth” issues. Most recently and up to today those issues are “town issues.”

Growth. Development & housing. Economic Development. Governance. Communications.

These can only be described as a call for action to our Milton youth for getting and staying involved in our process of growth. The fabric of Milton is changing rapidly and its important for them to be part of the process.

So this past September, Milton council received a report called “Milton Youth Strategy Report” that was well received by our members of council.

Ward 4 Town Councillor Sameera Ali is the council representative for the Milton Youth Task Force and a strong proponent for youth involvement in town. We recently had an opportunity to sit down on the YourTV Halton show “Local Matters” to discuss the report, its findings and how the issues brought up by the youth task force not only touch the lives of youth, but that of seniors and all citizens of Milton.

Here’s the show.
