Happy New Year is in order. We enter 2018 a combination of a little wet and a little cold as Mother Nature throws a few more curve balls at us. During the Christmas season, there was quite a bit of snow dumped on Milton, and for the most part our staff has done a very good job in clearing the roads in a very short period of time. Was it perfect? Far from it as there are always areas for improvement that we along with staff have identified.
If you follow me on my other social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) you will have seen some pictures from the New Years Bell Ringing at Milton Town Hall with 2017 Invictus Games medalist, Milton fire fighter and resident Kelly Scanlan as our honourary bell ringer for 2018!
We were so honoured to have her help those who braved the cold that night to ring in 2018. She also told us some great stories from the Invictus Games and having Prince Harry in attendance was obviously one of the highlights for many.
This past week was the restarting of our regular meeting schedules, both at Halton Region and the Town of Milton…as the saying goes “No rest for the wicked” This past week however was the first public information session for the apartment and town home development at Hwy 25 or Ontario Street and Derry Road intersection.
We are also reviewing standards that will be used going forward with High Rise and Mid Rise standards as this wont be the last of the applications in Milton for high density residential growth. This particular one will have a staff report coming to council possibly in late March 2018, so stay tuned to my social media feeds and this website for more details.
I also want to congratulate Ryan Graham who is one the great workers we have at Maplehurst Correctional facility by the highway. He and some other of his co-workers staged a fundraiser in support of Halton Womens Place this past week staying outdoors for 24 hours. As we all know, the weather the last few weeks hasnt been tropical, but he ended up raising well over $3,000 for Halton Womens Place, so THANK YOU RYAN.
