Thank you Mike for breaking the ice and starting discussions on the Budget Call report. The result was by far the most discussion I have seen on this agenda item in the years since the proceess began.
Although some councillors still don’t get it, it was good to hear CAO Belvedere and some councillors acknowledge that this was the time to provide direction to staff in preparing the budget – not in December.
Thanks also for digging out the info that staff is assuming the hospital levy, which was approved only for 2011, will be continued into 2012 – plus a 4.41% estimated tax increase.
Good work!
I agree garlis.
I was watching online last night and figured that when the report came up, we’d have the token comment about “keep it at inflation” staff would nod, all those in favour and be done.
Mike, thank you for getting that answer from staff. Reading the report it doesnt have the hospital levy in there anywhere. Hoping that it would be forgotten and just assumed to be in there.
Good on you for bringing up the city of Toronto as well. The budget chief in Toronto is going to every department head and asking for cuts. I dont think Milton is at that level but they need to be reminded every once in awhile who they report to.
Good luck on your budget input sessions as well. I know you campaigned on these very things and Im glad you dragged the other HV councillors as well to this. You were the only councillor out of the four who voted against the budget last year so we’ll see how many around the table develop a back bone.
Overall, Im very pleased at your performance…youre walking the talk.
